The story of the Black Forest gâteau began in the early 19th century. Back then, the delicious combination of cherries, cream, and cherry schnapps was first discovered for a dessert. Over time, more ingredients were added until, in 1934, the original Black Forest gâteau was born.

Chocolate Sponge Base

250g sugar
300g flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
7 eggs

Filling and Decoration

1.5 litres of cream
150g sugar
4 sheets of gelatine
4–5 tbsp sour cherry jam
Maraschino cherries for decoration
Black Forest cherry schnapps (Kirschwasser)
Chocolate shavings
300g sour cherries

Alfred Boch: In over 40 years, it’s already more than 24,000.
